What to Expect on Your First Day: A Step-by-Step Guide
Your first driving lesson is a big step, but there’s no need to feel nervous. At Scott Tibbles Driver Training, your first day is all about getting comfortable, building confidence, and taking the first steps toward becoming a safe, independent driver. Here’s a step-by-step guide to what you can expect.
1. The Welcome and Paperwork
Scott will greet you and quickly go over some essential paperwork, like checking your provisional license. This is also a great chance for you to ask any initial questions you have. Scott’s friendly and empathetic approach ensures you’ll feel at ease from the very beginning.
2. Getting to Know the Car
Before you even start the engine, you’ll get familiar with the car itself. Scott will explain the basics of his new Suzuki car, including:
- Cockpit Drill: How to adjust your seat, steering wheel, and mirrors for proper posture and visibility.
- The Controls: He’ll show you the clutch, brake, accelerator, and how to use the handbrake.
- Dashboard Symbols: You’ll learn what the different lights and dials on the dashboard mean.
3. Your First Drive
This is the exciting part! You’ll start on a quiet road where you can focus without the pressure of heavy traffic. Scott will guide you through your first moves:
- Starting the Engine: He’ll show you how to start the car and prepare to move off.
- Finding the Biting Point: This is a crucial skill. You’ll practice using the clutch to find the “biting point” to move the car forward smoothly.
- Moving Off and Stopping: You’ll practice a simple but vital sequence of moving off and safely pulling over to the side of the road.
Scott’s new car is fitted with dual He-Man controls, which provide a crucial safety net. This means he can intervene at any moment, giving you the freedom to learn from your mistakes without worry.
4. A Discussion on Future Lessons
At the end of your lesson, Scott will provide some positive feedback on your progress. You’ll discuss what you learned and talk about what to expect in your next lesson. This is where the flexible nature of his lessons comes in, allowing you to schedule your next session at a time that works for you.
Your first lesson is a taster of what’s to come. It’s a low-pressure introduction designed to make you feel confident and excited about the rest of your driving journey.
