The Kingsbridge Driving Test Centre: What to Expect and How to Prepare

Unfortunately, there isn’t a driving test centre in Kingsbridge. The nearest one is in Newton Abbot. However, learning to drive with Scott Tibbles in and around Kingsbridge is excellent preparation for passing your test, as the area presents a diverse range of driving conditions.

What to Expect on Test Day

On the day of your driving test, which will be at the Newton Abbot Driving Test Centre, an examiner will assess your ability to drive safely and independently in various situations. The test lasts around 40 minutes and includes:

  • Eyesight Check: You’ll need to read a number plate from a distance of 20 metres.
  • “Show Me, Tell Me” Questions: The examiner will ask you two vehicle safety questions. One will be a “tell me” question before you start driving (e.g., “Tell me how you’d check the brakes are working”), and the other will be a “show me” question while you’re driving (e.g., “Show me how you’d wash the windscreen”).
  • General Driving: This is the main part of the test. You’ll drive on a variety of roads, including urban, rural, and possibly dual carriageways, and follow instructions from the examiner.
  • Manoeuvre: You’ll be asked to perform one of three manoeuvres: parallel park at the side of the road, park in a bay (either by driving in and reversing out, or by reversing in and driving out), or pull up on the right-hand side of the road, reverse, and then rejoin the traffic.
  • Independent Driving: You’ll spend about 20 minutes following either sat-nav directions or a series of road signs.

How to Prepare with Scott Tibbles

  • Local Knowledge: Scott knows the driving test routes in the Newton Abbot area and will give you plenty of practice on the roads where you’ll be tested, so there will be no surprises on the day.
